Meet Your Teacher

Katherine “Kitty” Moore

Yoga saved my life.

Almost everyone who practices yoga for any length of time will tell you it’s changed their life. But yoga didn’t just change my life, it saved it. 30 years ago I found myself totally isolated, staring out of my kitchen window in a tiny cottage on a remote peninsula in a foreign country, wondering how I had gone from being a happy, well-educated woman with a successful acting career to being broke and pregnant, with two children at my feet, scared that my abusive husband would be home soon. How I got into that situation is a long story, but once I knew I had to get myself and my children out, I looked and prayed for a way to make it happen. When my husband lost his job he agreed to let me work part time.

I signed up to teach acting through adult ed, but no one signed up. However, they said they were desperate for a yoga teacher and asked if I could teach yoga. Now, I had never even been to a yoga class, but I was desperate for money and a chance at freedom, so I said yes. I took out a few books on yoga from the local library and started reading. I knew that first day that this was the answer to my prayers.

Learning, practicing and teaching yoga for the next two years transformed my body and my mind. Giving me the tools I needed to free myself from the ideas and beliefs that were keeping me locked in a hopeless situation and the physical and emotional strength to leave my husband and survive the very dangerous period of initial separation and divorce.

The complete practice of yoga so transformed every aspect of my life that I have dedicated the last 30 years to teaching the science of yoga to others.

Teacher and Student

It’s hard to believe 30 years have passed since that first class. Thousands of hours of training, multiple yoga studios in several states, and a renewed sense of purpose in our changing world have brought me here to Niwot and this studio.

I have been blessed with amazing teachers. My first two Teacher Trainings were with Lex Gilliam from the Houston Yoga Institute, and Patty Townsend from The Center for Yoga and Healing Arts in Amherst MA. Yogiraj Alan Finger introduced me to Tantra and Ayurveda, and led me to my next teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker.

Rod became my direct teacher when he formally initiated me into the lineage of Sri Vidya in 2004. (Sri Vidya is a Tantric lineage that can be traced back teacher to student for thousands of years.) I studied with and assisted Rod for the next 15 years. Through him I completed my first 500 Hour Certification with Para Yoga. During that time I experienced my first 4 Desires Workshop and was astounded by how quickly and effectively it identified and eliminated my subconscious blocks to living the life I truly desired. I immediately began training to become certified to teach this powerful practice.

It remains one of the most effective tools for self-transformation I have the privilege of offering my students.  In 2005 Rod introduced me to my current teacher, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait of the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA. He is a true Tantric Master and the direct student of Swami Rama of the Himalayas. I completed my second 500 Hour Certification through the Himalayan Institute, as well as my Vishoka Meditation Certification.

My classes are always designed with a specific energetic effect in mind, based on the needs of the people in class, and the asana, breathwork and meditation are woven together to achieve that end.

Love and Energy

FThrough Pandits amazing teaching, I have fallen in love with the history and stories of our tradition and the exquisite mantric bounty that uplifts and frees the human spirit. I bring that love and knowledge to every class.

My classes are always designed with a specific energetic effect in mind, based on the needs of the people in class, and the asana, breathwork, mantra, and meditation are woven together to achieve that end. I hope you’ll come to class and get to know me and our friendly and welcoming community. Whether this is your first yoga class or your thousandth, you’ll be home here.

Hari Om, Om Tat Sat.
